Late Bloomer

I have painted this scene several times. It never fails to enchant me ... and leave me puzzled as to the exact use of the building.  I first sketched this scene on a very warm late summer afternoon. I can still smell the warm grasses and see the deep shadows with dust motes floating against the inky darkness of that place.
